Serving Our Community

St. Stephens Day School

St. Stephen’s Day School serves children and families of all backgrounds in a program that strives for the development of character and attitudes that will enable children to adopt a Christian approach to values and relationships. We provide a healthy, safe, nurturing environment in which each and every child feels emotionally secure. Our belief is that children “learn through play,” and we, therefore, provide a variety of experiences and exposures to create a developmentally appropriate atmosphere of learning. This environment encourages physical, emotional and mental growth that, in turn, helps children to develop confidence, creativity and an eagerness to learn.

The day school is an outreach program of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. The school began in 1985 and it currently serves children two through four years of age. It is licensed and regulated by Bright From the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (http.//www.decal.ga.gov). The day school was one of the first schools in Georgia to be awarded the certificate of Center of Distinction. The school is a Georgia Quality Rated program and is accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children). Our four year-olds participate in Georgia’s lottery-funded Pre-Kindergarten program. Along with state pre-k funding our income is derived entirely from tuition fees. The program is self-supporting and operates on a budget separate from that of the church.

For more information about the day school program, please contact Valerie Dixon, Director or at 478-452-3417.

Chard Wray Food Pantry

In 1974, a young woman named Elizabeth came to the parish office of St. Stephen’s in search of food for her family. She had several children, no food and no money. The following Sunday an appeal was made to the parish for food for Elizabeth’s family, and that was the beginning of the Food Pantry.

The Chard Wray Food Pantry provides groceries to families, seniors and others in the community who have access to cooking facilities but who have a difficult time affording wholesome, nutritious food throughout the month.

The pantry is staffed by volunteers from local community groups and churches. The pantry is always happy to accept non-perishable foods and financial donations.

The Chard Wray Food Pantry is maintained through the generosity of schools and businesses in the community, and especially through the contributions of churches who are acting on the words of Jesus: “Feed my sheep.”
If you would like to learn more about the food pantry, please call the parish office.

The food pantry is located on the grounds of Central State, 472 Broad Street, Milledgeville, Georgia.

Outreach

St. Stephen’s Outreach Committee focuses on reaching into the community to make a difference in the lives of others. We are able to do this with the support of the congregation and the continuing support of the broader Milledgeville community. We welcome all who are interested in helping support our community.

Outreach Committee is the central force at St. Stephen’s for enriching the community through various activities.
The Committee:

  • coordinates existing outreach efforts, including the Chard Wray Food Pantry
  • identifies needs within the community that are not being met by existing programs
  • provides assistance for the development and implementation of new programs
  • ensures best practices are being employed by all outreach programs
  • provides ongoing review of all programs to determine effectiveness

If you are interested in learning more about our outreach ministry, please call the parish office.
