The Adult Educational opportunities offered by St. Stephen’s are intended to assist in faithful living and discernment of adults, living out our Baptismal Covenant in our daily life – the workplace, community, family, home and school.

Sunday School for Adults

Living the Good News is a lectionary based program where adults can read and discuss the assigned readings for the week.  Through conversation and study we learn more about the meaning of the Scripture and its application to our daily life.  Wes Owens is the facilitator of this group, and they meet in Classroom One of Warden’s Hall.

In the Garner Room, we run series on various topics.  The current series we are studying is called “The Seven Churches of Revelation.”  In this nine-week study we will look at the letters written to the Seven Churches of Asia Minor and discuss the relevance of the message to the church of today.  Facilitators for this series are Fr. Don and Mel Caron.  This study will continue until March 25th.

Week Night Studies

Week-night studies have been offered throughout the year.  Fr. Don and Mel are currently offering Hearing With The Heart:  A Gentle Guide to Discerning God’s Will in Your Life on Thursday nights. Laura King is hosting this group that will meet until March 29.

Spirituality

The Spiritual Formation Team is in the process of planning upcoming programs/events that will foster the spiritual lives of our members and others in our community.  The next program scheduled is the Taize service scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th .

Safeguarding God’s Children
It is required by Diocesan policy that anyone who serves on staff, the Vestry or works with children and youth, must have completed the Safeguarding God’s Children program.  Training is offered by Georgia Newman and John Gamble,  or online training can be arranged by Mel Caron.  All parents (and grandparents) are encouraged to take this informative training.

Reception and Confirmation

We welcome all who visit us at St. Stephen’s.  If you would like to become a full member of our church, Reception and Confirmation are held twice a year at the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta in June and December.  Classes will be offered prior to the celebration in Atlanta.  Contact Fr. Don or Mel Caron if you are interested in participating in these classes.  (The diocesan policy is that teens be in 10th Grade or above for Confirmation.)

Education for Ministry (EFM)

Cursillo

Cursillo is all about renewal.  God's grace finds expression in Cursillo, recognizing that life is beautiful, important, and worth living.  Cursillo is an invitation to you to begin a process of growth and self-understanding.  Simply put, the Cursillo experience leads to the proclamation that "God loves you!" Cursillo is basically a Christian renewal weekend held at Camp Fortson twice a year.  During the weekend, Cursillistas (Pilgrims) encounter a concentrated course in Christianity.  For those who are busy, work hard, come home tired, and can't find answers -- a Cursillo weekend offers a way that Christ can become the center of their lives.  The weekend is filled with lots of love and fun -- and new lifetime friends are made!  Participants are encouraged to renew their commitment to Christian life beyond the weekend by attending a small group reunion on a regular basis.  St. Stephen's has a large number of Cursillo members who would like to share their Cursillo experiences with those interested.   Check the Upcoming Events page for upcoming Cursillo weekends.  Contact Fr. Don for more information.
